Marcelo Loffreda - Head Coach

Marcelo joined Tigers in November 2007 having led Argentina to third place in the Rugby World Cup in France. The Pumas defeated the host nation twice along the way to winning the bronze medal and were only denied a chance of World Cup Final glory by eventual winners South Africa.

Other notable achievements during his time with Argentina include a first-ever series win over France, a first win over England at Twickenham, a full house of victories over the home nations and a draw with the British & Irish Lions in 2005, as well as achieving a highest-ever standing of No.3 in the IRB world rankings.

Marcelo coached his country for almost eight years, starting in 2000, and led Argentina to successive World Cups in 2003 and 2007. As a player, he won 44 international caps as a centre and captained the Pumas on 16 occasions. He scored four international tries – one against Fiji and the others on separate occasions against the USA Eagles – while his highlights included playing in a 13-13 draw against England at Twickenham in October 1978 (when Tigers legends Peter Wheeler and Paul Dodge were in the home side) and the country’s first-ever game against Australia in 1979, which they won 24-13 in Buenos Aires.

Marcelo retired from international rugby after captaiwellington finance Logoning Argentina in South Africa in October 1994, having also gained four caps for South America when they played official Tests in 1980-82. He played his club rugby San Isidro in his native Argentina, winning the national championship in 1993 and 1994, as well as the Buenos Aires title on nine occasions, and now becomes the first Argentinian to take a head coach role at a Guinness Premiership club.

 Richard Cockerill - Forwards Coach

Richard Cockerill

This is Richard Cockerill's second spell with Leicester Tigers - he left at the end of Tigers double winning session of 2001/02 to join French Top 14 side Montferrand, where he played for two years seeing them through to the final of the Parker Pen Cup in May.

Until the arrival of Marcelo Loffreda in November 2007, Richard ably held the role of acting head coach, guiding Tigers to an impressive start to the season despite the absence of 12 players through World Cup duty.

Richard, known as one of the game's most spirited players, hails from Rugby. He was educated at Harris Church of England School and played rugby for Warwickshire Schools. He went on to represent England at U21s level and then England A, before making his Test debut in 1997. He played in the '98 and '99 Five Nations and the '99 World Cup, missing out on only two possible selections for England's 22 during his test career.

Richard has also been invited to play for the Barbarians, joining them on their Summer 2001 tour of the UK, and then captaining the side that came to Welford Road for the Neil Back Testimonial game in March 2003.

Neil Back

Neil Back was one of England's outstanding players during their victorious 2003 Rugby World Cup campaign; starting six of the seven games in the tournament and scoring two tries along the way (the only fixture he missed was the pool game against Uruguay). It was his third successive World Cup campaign, having also been involved in '95 and '99, whilst he also toured with the British & Irish Lions squad three times in a row - to South Africa in 1997, Australia in 2001 and New Zealand in 2005.

He captained his country on four occasions during his 66-test career, including the Cook Cup victory against Australia during 2001/02, the last occasion being the day of his 50th England cap, with him retiring from test rugby during the 2004 Six Nations.

Neil took on coaching responsibilities within the club, whilst still serving as a player during the 2003/04 season, eventually retiring from first-class rugby at the end of 2004/05, after 339 matches for Tigers' first team - which saw him score a staggering 125 tries - and he now finds himself on the academy's coaching staff, as part of his role as the club's technical director, as well as looking after the first team's defence on a full-time basis.

Teresa Chester - Rugby Administrator

Teresa joined Leicester Tigers in September 1999, initially assisting Jo Hollis and working within the club’s community department. She now holds the role of rugby administrator and is responsible for a wide variety of issues, ranging from looking after all aspects of academy administration, to ordering every piece of kit worn by the entire Tigers set-up. 

Teresa was born and raised in Leicestershire, having been educated at Lutterworth Grammar School. Prior to starting a family, Teresa continued her county links as she worked for another popular local firm in Everards Brewery.

Paul Dodge

Paul joined Tigers Youth Team in 1973 and moved to the first team squad in 1975. His playing career at Tigers saw him appear in 436 matches as well as being capped for England in 1978.

He featured in two British Lions Tests in 1980 in South Africa and was captain for England in 1985 as well as Tigers captain in the '87/88 season. Paul coached the Tigers backs between 1993 and '96, before moving to the academy as U21s backs coach in 1998.

He now works as academy coach and owns the family business of restoration book-binding.

Carl joined Tigers as Player Development Manager in August 2006 having moved to Market Harborough the same month. Prior to starting his post with Leicester, Carl was Academy Director with Gloucester for four years from 2002-2006.

He spent six years as a Head of Physical Education in both private and state secondary education before taking on the role of Assistant Head Coach / Academy Director at Worcester between 1997 and 2002. Carl is married to Juliet and has four children.

Jamie Hamilton - Specialist Scrum-half Coach & Video Analyst

Jamie Hamilton

A former pupil of Gleanon School in Sydney, Australia and Stonefield House in Lincoln, Jamie played 162 games for Tigers between 1990 and 2001/02, despite taking 12 months out to play for London Scottish for the 1996/97 season.

An experienced sevens player, his expertise earned him selection in the England squads for both the Hong Kong Sevens and the International Rugby Board World Sevens in 2001. Jamie's talents in the shortened version of the game also resulted in him playing in the Tigers squads which won the Middlesex Sevens in 1995 and the Madrid Sevens in 1997.

The long-serving scrum-half is one of only seven Tigers players to gain five league winners medals with the club. Jamie, who also enjoyed a playing spell in Christchurch, New Zealand, featured in both Tigers' Heineken Cup successes in 2000/01 and 2001/02. He rates that first European triumph as the best moment of his Tigers playing career.

Dusty Hare - Chief Scout

Dusty Hare

Dusty was a professional cricketer from 1971-76, before seeing the light and moving to rugby union. He represented Tigers between 1976 and 1989, playing 394 games for the club. By the time he retired, Dusty was the world's highest points-scorer, achieving 7,137 points in total, with 4,507 scored for Tigers alone. He was capped 25 times for England and was a British and Irish Lions tourist in 1983.

He served on the Barbarian Committee between 1989 and 1992 and was awarded a MBE in 1989. In 1993, Dusty took on the role of Director of Rugby at Nottingham, before coming back to Tigers in 1994 as Development Coordinator.

Before becoming full-time at Tigers, Dusty was a farmer. He was also awarded an honorary Bachelor of Arts degree from Leicester University in 1990.

Mike Harrison - Educational Welfare Officer

Mike Harrison

After achieving a degree in physical education, and playing for Loughborough University from 1959-62 and representing English Universities in 1962, Mike joined Tigers in as a centre. He appeared in 210 first team games between 1962-71 as well as captaining the 65/66 season.

Mike also featured in five England trials before coaching Wyggeston School from 1970-85 and coaching Leicestershire in 1978. He was also Vice Principal for Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College from 1975-98 in charge of student welfare.

Julie Hayton - Rehabilitation Coach

Julie Hayton

Welsh-born Julie grew up in Wigan and she studied in Manchester, where she completed a sports rehabilitation degree, after previously obtaining another degree in physical therapy.

Julie has been with Leicester Tigers since her serve as Tigers' masseuse for 18 months before joining the set-up on a full-time basis.

Julie works closely with the physiotherapists and strength and conditioning staff to ensure that players are eased in properly from injuries. She was instrumental in Tigers adapting a 'prehab' routine to prevent players from picking up injuries, whilst she also specialises in soft tissue injuries.

Jo Hollis -First Team Manager

Jo was born and raised in Hong Kong and was educated there and at Abbotsholme School before obtaining a degree in Sports Science and Education at London University.

Prior to joining Leicester Tigers in 1997, Jo was responsible for anti-terrorist training and administration during her time as security manager at Cathays Pacific Airways.

As first team manger, Jo takes a great deal of pressure off the players and coaching staff by looking after every aspect of off-field organisation and administration. Her responsibilities range from new player introductions to game logistics; from managing players’ diaries to travel and player administration, as well as providing general support for all first team players and coaches.

Becky Judkins – Strength and Conditioning / Medical Administrator

Becky joined Leicester Tigers at the start of the 2005/06 season. Becky’s primary role involves working with the club’s strength and conditioning coaches.

Becky orders all the equipment and nutritional supplements, ensuring the players have all they need ahead of both training and matches.

As well as dealing with aspects of the club’s administration, Becky assists the club doctor in ordering scans and x rays for the players.

Andy Key - Head of Rugby Development

Andy Key

Andy, who is known to all as Kiwi, was born in Market Harborough, educated at Welland Park High School, Market Harborough Grammar School and Leicester Polytechnic.

He played for Tigers between 1975 and 1981 and again from 1987-92. In between these two periods he played for Bedford and Nottingham. Andy's father, Maurice, played for Tigers in the late '50s while his two brothers, Richard and Lance, have both been professional footballers.

Andy spent 15 years in total at BSS Group Plc before joining Tigers as full-time General Operations Manager. He has since been appointed as Head of Rugby Development at the club, a role which includes the positions of assistant first team backs coach and academy manager. His current position also focuses on ensuring the successful elite development of future first team players

Jackie Limna - Physiotherapist

Jackie Limna

Jackie obtained her degree in physiotherapy in Bristol, before going on to get a Masters degree in Sports Medicine from Trinity College in Dublin.

She worked for the NHS for six years, before moving into rugby, which saw her work for National League club Western-Super Mare, as well as Somerset County Rugby Union. Jackie has also helped out with the RFUW, in their Elite Regional Programme.

Jackie joined Leicester Tigers in 2004/05 and her main role is in Tigers' Academy, whilst she also helps out with the first team and Tigers' development team. Chris Baron - Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach

Chris joined Tigers at the beginning of the 2006/07 season, just a month after graduating with a degree in Sports Science and Coaching.

He spent last season working in a junior position and has now been promoted to look after the strength and conditioning requirements of the club’s academy players. 

Chris hails from Wigan and used to play rugby league for Wigan St Patricks.

Alex joined Tigers at the start of the 2006/07 season following the completion of his Sport and Exercise Science degree.

While studying for his degree, Alex gained valuable practical experience in strength and conditioning in the sphere of professional sport by working part time at London Wasps. However, his first exposure to strength and conditioning in professional sport was at the England pre-World Cup training camp in 2003, where he worked as a voluntary helper to the fitness team.

At Tigers, his initial responsibility was to increase the fitness levels of the academy players but he is now a key member of the first-team strength and conditioning staff.

Patrick Mortimer

Paddy boasts extensive experience in the rugby world, having played and coached for many years. Forced out of rugby at the tender age of 23, he obtained a degree in Physical Education from the Manchester Metropolitan University, whilst he is also a sports psychologist under accreditation.

Paddy, who was born in the Lake District in 1967, played college rugby as well as representing Sale's second team. His coaching experiences saw him coach Fylde for three years, whilst he was also an assistant coach for Sale at first-team level, a head coach at Liverpool St Helens and an assistant coach at Herriots Rugby Club.

Paddy also taught physical education at school, lectured at Manchester Metropolitan University and Edinburgh University, managed Gloucester's Rugby Academy as well as serving the RFU as its Sports Science Co-ordinator for referees. Paddy is currently a representative on UK Athletics' Senior Sports Science Performance Group.

Ray Needham

Ray joined Tigers in 1973 after achieving a degree at Exeter University. He made 129 first team appearances until 1982 when he coached Leicester Tigers Extras for a year.

From 1984 he was a full RFU coach and coached Leicester Youth until 1989. Ray continued to teach throughout his early coaching career at Allderman Newtons from 1973-2000.

Martin Nourish joined Tigers as first team kit-man in November following the retirement of Cliff Shephard.

From a farming family, Martin also worked as a car dealer before making his way to Tigers. He first took an interest in rugby during the 1970s thanks to Leicester’s glorious run in the old John Player Cup competition.

Martin saw the job advertised in the Leicester Mercury and attended two interviews, stating that he ‘felt like an expectant father waiting for the call to see if I had the job!’ 

Ollie Richardson - Strength and Conditioning Coach

Ollie Richardson

Ollie - who joined Tigers in 2004/05 - is a graduate of the University of Bath's coach education and sports performance programme and he also holds a Sports Science degree. His main duties involve looking after Tigers' first team squad, along with fellow Athletic Performance coach John Dams, whilst he also travels with Tigers' development team.

Ollie has worked as a strength and conditioning coach in athletics, rugby, cricket and swimming. He was based in Christchurch for a while, where he worked as a strength and conditioning coach for New Zealand swimming, whilst he also enjoyed a spell at a rugby club in NZ.

Andy Shelton

Andy joined Tigers on an internship scheme at the beginning of the 2007/08 season and was promoted to a strength and conditioning coach after six months at the club. He now predominantly works with the first team, although his duties also include working with the Tigers Academy.

Prior to beginning his career with Tigers, Andy completed a degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University, while he also has experience working voluntarily as a head coach at one of Kenya’s leading rugby schools. He hopes to combine working with Tigers with a part-time Masters degree in Sport Science at the start of the 2008/09 season.

Tom Smith

Tom joined Tigers in 1980 and notched up 184 games for the first team. He has also coached the Extras for two years and is currently in his sixth season coaching the academy teams.

For six and a half years he was a rugby development officer in Leicestershire and he is also a PE teacher at Lancaster School. He has the RFU Intermediate coach, RFU coaching award and is currently undertaking the RFU level four programme.

Paul was born in Walsall, West Midlands, and studied at the University Hospital of Wales, qualifying in 1981.

He worked in Walsall for 2 years after completing his studies, before moving to Leicester in 1983. He began working at the Leicester General Hospital, then had a stint at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and also at BUPA.

Paul began working for Leicester Tigers on a part time basis in 1996 and become a full-time member of staff in June 2004. His duties include looking after the first team squad.

Scott grew up in Sydney, Australia where he was educated at the University of Sydney, Cumberland College. He obtained a B.App.Sc.degree in Physiotherapy in 2001. He was heavily involved in rugby as a player, representing Australia U-19, New South Wales U-21 and Australian Barbarians as a scrum-half. A knee injury prevented any further involvement as a player, so Scott decided to pursue a career in rugby as a physiotherapist. 

Scott moved to London in 2003 and established himself in a private hospital sports clinic while also setting up a small practice in Notting Hill.

During the time he has been in England, Scott has worked with the Tongan Rugby team on their European tour to Italy and France and with the Great Britain rowing squad at various training camps.

Scott has recently completed his MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary University of London, where his dissertation was “Return to Play Guidelines following Knee Injuries in the Guinness Premiership 2006/07.”

Dean Benton 

Dean moved to Tigers from his native Australia towards the end of 2007, having previously worked as performance director at National Rugby League giants Brisbane Broncos. Dean was a key figure with the Broncos during their championship winning season of 2006, as well as the club making the finals again in 2007, and brings with him a wealth of experience. He has worked as a strength and conditioning coach with both the Wallabies and Australia A, as well as spending time as both a sprint and strength coach with the Australian Institute of Sport and the Queensland Academy of Sport.

Wayne Lakin 

Wayne joined the club in January 2006 and currently divides his time between Tigers and the British Judo Association, where he is employed an ‘Enjoy Judo’ Manager for the Midlands region.

Wayne coaches judo to the Tigers first-team, Tigers Academy and the club’s four Elite Player Development Centres.

Wayne enjoyed a highly successful judo career during which time he was crowned Commonwealth Champion in 1994 and was on the British reserve list for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Wayne also competed at the European Championships at both junior and senior level before making the move into coaching.
