If you are aged 16-18 and looking to develop your rugby alongside your future study, our BMC Rugby Academy may be just the programme for you.
Brooksby Melton College is the highest achieving specialist student college in the East Midlands with a 94.7% pass rate (Skills and Funding Agency 2016) and we offer ten hours of rugby and S&C for BTEC Level 2 & 3 sports students through our BMC Rugby Academy, each week. Sports students also benefit from access to an all-weather 3G outdoor pitch, sport science lab as well as use of the strength and conditioning gym.
If a sports qualification isn't of interest, there are many other BTEC qualifications BMC has to offer and timetabling will allow you to participate in Wednesday afternoon enrichment to join in with these designated rugby training and game times. In addition to this, you will receive a home 'work-on' program to make up your contact hours and allow you to complete S&C and individual skills sessions.
Who can get involved in the programme?
All rugby enthusiasts who want to develop themselves as a player whilst gaining further education qualifications that will help direct them to their future pathways. Participation and training is open to all ages, however, due to AoC rulings competition/game time is limited to those who are under 19 age grade as of 1st September 1997 (unless permission is otherwise granted from NGB's or opposing teams prior to the event). Speaking as a first year student on the Brooksby Melton college rugby academy I would say that I am extremely happy with the college itself and my experience so far. The brand new sports building with outstanding new facilities including the gym has helped progress with my strength and conditioning and also all round rugby skillset. The brand new AstroTurf has allowed us to train during the winter when our main rugby pitch has been frozen of waterlogged. On the educational side, some outstanding lecturers have helped me through my work and keeping on top of it throughout the school year making my education enjoyable and less stressful. - Sam Read - Student/Participant.
