The Academy of Sport

Rugby is new to add to thwe list of Sports Academy's at South Leicestershire College (SLC). SLC's Academy of Sport offers a new and exciting opportunity for 16 - 19 year olds who want to pursue their sporting interests, whilst obtaining an academic qualification from any of our full-time courses.

The Academy of Sport is aimed at both males and females who are studying, or intend to study on, any of our full-time courses (12.5 or more hours per week).

Learners can take part in six hours of training per week, in their chosen sport, which will coincide with their timetable and will include taking part in sport specific competitions every Wednesday afternoon. They will be trained by our highly qualified coaches here at Leicester Tigers.

As a member of the Academy of Sport you will receive a FREE sports-specific kit package. All transport to and from training venues will be provided by SLC. All learners in the Academy of Sport will be given nutritional advice, physiology and sports science support.

Members will be given the opportunity to gain the following qualifications in addition to a full-time course:

• Basic First-Aid

• N.C.F.E. Level One Award in Sport

• Level One in Drug Awareness

The Rugby Development Centre will be delivered by Leicester Tigers qualified coaches. All training will take place at local state of the art training facilities.

All learners will compete in competitive games within the British Federation of Sport. There are 20 exclusive places available and these will be allocated after the interview / trial process. Transport to and from training grounds will be provided by SLC.

The Team has already competed in two 10's festivals: The emerging colleges league at Sleaford RFC which they won and are looking to move up to the next league. They have also participated in the Leicestershire Colleges 10's Tournament most recently which they won undefeated.
