Home of 2008/09 Guinness Premiership champions Leicester Tigers, Welford Road has always been a high-profile stadium in the sporting world, given the club's worldwide reputation as twice winners of Europe's Heineken Cup and an unprecedented eight English championships.
With the opening of the new £14.5million Caterpillar Stand in 2009, phase one of the overall £60million stadium redevelopment, matchday capacity has increased from 17,500 to 24,000. Eventual capacity will be 30,000 when the redevelopment programme is fully completed.
Now, for the first time, Welford Road is able to host stadium concerts using the new 10,000-seater Caterpillar Stand and with up to 7,000 standing places on the pitch and the lower seating rows of the East and West stands.
The new stand has a 1,300-square-metre function suite with seating for 1,000 - the largest of its type in the region. The stadium seating deck also includes padded seats for 1,000 guests.
The new Caterpillar Stand has been constructed with a concert audience in mind and the correct dynamics have been incorporated into the build. All future development will also incorporate this vital construction element.
Welford Road enjoys a four-month 'rugby close season' to enable the greatest flexibility when it come to planning summer concert dates. Football stadiums have a much shorter window of opportunity.
The venue also has a senior management team with considerable stadium concert experience.
The Travel Plan includes numerous Park and Walk/Park and Ride sites, including use of a new multi-million pound Park and Ride facility to the south of the city for 1,000 vehicles.
