Side Step

Keep reading below to learn how to master a side-step using this easy to follow guide.

Before running towards your opposition, you need to decide which foot you are going to step off, however for this example we will use our left foot.

Start off running to the left side of the player you are trying to beat (his right side). By doing this it will draw he/she to you. Once he/she is about 1 meter away from you, move all of your weight and step on to your left foot (this should look like you are going to step in that direction and draw your opposition).

Once you have done this, push off using your left foot and step in towards the opposite direction (to the right). By doing this you should have successfully avoided your opposition and left him for dust!

Practice: An easy way to practice this in training is by doing it at walking pace. Once you are comfortable with the movement and timings, then you can increase it to a light jog and then at running speed.
