Tigers full back Sam Vesty has stated his surprise at being voted the Lumbers Player of the Month for September. The England Saxons star was chosen by Tigers fans for a string of fine individual performances during the opening few weeks of the season.

"It's always an honour to be recognised, especially by the supporters, as they're the people who really count," said Vesty. "I was obviously surprised to be chosen as a number of lads have put in some really good performances so far this year.

"I'm enjoying my rugby at the moment and I'm glad the fans have been enjoying themselves too. Hopefully that will continue and we'll start to make some real progress as a side."

The award is part of the continued support the club receive from local jewelers Lumbers, who have been heavily involved with the club for a number of years.

Lumbers have been sponsoring the award for the last five seasons, during which time most of Tigers' great and good have won or come close to winning the £500 watch on offer.
