Leicester Tigers showed some real finishing power in running in eight tries during their 57-3 victory over Bourgoin in Pool Four of the Heineken Cup. Head coach Pat Howard was delighted to gain the bonus point after seeing a hat-trick of tries from flanker Lewis Moody, plus two from Shane Jennings, and one each for scrum-half Harry Ellis, centre Daryl Gibson and second-half replacement Tom Varndell.
"I thought the first half was similar to last week but in the second half this time we took a few more of our opportunities - and we didn't lose three players to the sin bin," said Howard after his team had completed the double over their French rivals. "We have taken nine points from the two games with Bourgoin and that is fairly good result. It keeps us in the hunt.
"Lewis Moody scored three tries, but I also thought Shane Jennings did well on the other flank and the back row as a whole is playing well. Martin Castrogiovanni had a pretty good game once again and it was good to see Harry Ellis continue the good form of the last five weeks.
"It gelled nicely. We produced some nice moves and we finished some of them well."
And with a four-game programme in the Guinness Premiership coming up during the next three weeks, starting against league leaders Bristol at Welford Road on Friday evening, Howard was also relieved to come through the game without any significant injuries in his squad.
"We have had some good wins and some consistent performances recently, and I am pleased that we have not picked up any major injuries going into this heavy domestic period," he said.
