Quick-fire Lewis breaks record

Lewis Moody earned a place in the Leicester Tigers record books during the 57-3 victory over Heineken Cup visitors Bourgoin on Saturday. Not only did the England and Lions flanker collect a hat-trick of tries for the first time in his senior career but, as he forced his way over the line in the corner after just 29 seconds, Moody registered the fastest Heineken Cup try in Tigers history.

Coincidentally, he also owned the previous best mark, with a score after 73 seconds in the memorable match at Wasps back in December 2004.

"I have scored a hat-trick before - for Bracknell Under-nines!" said Moody when quizzed about his previous best try-scoring performance.

Moody collected the Heineken Man of the Match award after completing his hat-trick against Bourgoin with further scores in the 60th and 62nd minutes as Tigers topped the half-century of points and grabbed a vital bonus point in Pool Four.

"We were frustrated last week when we missed out on a bonus point after starting the game in Bourgoin so well, and this week we first had to make sure of the win and then go for that bonus point," Moody said.

"Last week we showed that the forwards can dominate by driving and taking it hard to them, while this week I think we showed an array of skills in the backs and that has to boost confidence for everyone in the squad.

"The guys who played when the internationals were away did a tremendous job - they were only a disallowed try at Saracens away from a full house of wins - and everyone wants to carry that through now."
