Stars added to World XV

French maestro Thomas Castaignede and Australia international Ben Tune have been confirmed in the World XV squad for the match against South Africa at the Walkers Stadium, Leicester, next month.

The Springboks will celebrate 100 years of rugby tours with the match on Sunday, December 3 (kick-off 3pm) and, fittingly, one of their original tourists will be represented by an international rugby descendant.

Full-back Thinus Delport, who played against Leicester Tigers at Welford Road earlier this month, is the great-great nephew of Anton Stegman, who was a member of the Springboks' first-ever touring team in 1906 - a tour which featured an historic match against the Midlands in Leicester.

But this time Delport will be wearing the colours of the World XV, alongside Castaignede, now of Saracens, and Australia winger Tune.

The full World XV squad for the match against South Africa is approaching completion. The squad, which is to be coached by Bob Dwyer and Brian Redpath, will be captained by Lawrence Dallaglio.

London Wasps, England and British & Irish Lions forward Dallaglio will lead the side for the final game of the Springboks' European tour.

Among the big-name players who have already confirmed their availability for the World XV are Justin Marshall, Michael Owen, Fabio Ongaro and former Great Britain rugby league captain Andy Farrell, who is now playing for Saracens after his high-profile code switch.

Dallaglio said: "It's not only a great honour to captain the World XV team, but also gives me the chance to play at international level once again alongside some other great players. The match will be a fantastic occasion, celebrating 100 years of Springboks touring, with some entertaining rugby on show and hopefully will give me the opportunity to show that I am back to my full fitness."

World Cup-winning coach Dwyer said: "I am pleased Lawrence has accepted to play for us. I have been fortunate enough to coach Lawrence on a number of occasions and I know he will make a significant contribution during the week's training and on matchday."

The full World XV squad will be announced next week and will have a truly international flavour with players from 10 nations being represented.

Tickets for the match are on sale now and are priced at £35, £30 and £20 and can be purchased through the Tigers ticket office on 08701 28 34 30 or on line at www.tigers.co.uk
