Leicester Tigers skipper Geordan Murphy will win his 71st cap in Ireland's opening Rugby World Cup match against the USA on Sunday.

Full-back Murphy, who only recovered from an ankle injury in time to play in Ireland’s warm-up programme, is recalled to an experienced backline which also includes Tommy Bowe, captain Brian O’Driscoll and Gordon D’Arcy.

Murphy made his Test debut against the USA in 2000, scoring two tries in his first senior international outing.

Former Tigers flanker Shane Jennings is included in the Irish forward pack.
