Niall Morris admitted to mixed emotions after his try-scoring Leicester Tigers debut ended in defeat.

Morris, a summer signing from Leinster, scored two tries on his first league start for Tigers in Saturday’s 30-28 defeat to Exeter Chiefs at Welford Road.

The tries helped Tigers fight back from 23-15 at half-time to take a bonus point from their opening Aviva Premiership fixture of the new season.

The 23-year-old, who came into the side as a late replacement for Mathew Tait, said he was pleased to get on the scoresheet on his first appearance but disappointed Tigers were unable to complete their comeback with victory.

“It’s mixed emotions, really,” said Morris. “I was pretty happy to get a try but it is very disappointing to lose a game we were hoping to win.

“It was enjoyable for the most part. The atmosphere in the crowd was massive. They really got behind us and it was a pleasure to play for them.

“We had some handling errors in the end zone where we should have punished them a bit more, so we were pretty disappointed with that.

“We got a point and we go onto Wasps next week and try to get a win away from home.”
