Tigers win eases pain for Salvi

Try-scorer Julian Salvi said Leicester Tigers' victory at Kingston Park helped make up for Australia's defeat at the Rugby World Cup.

Australian back-rower Salvi admitted he “copped it” from his Tigers teammates after Ireland’s 15-6 Pool C victory at Eden Park on Saturday morning.

The 25-year-old scored his first try in Tigers colours as Leicester recorded a 27-26 win over Newcastle Falcons, and admitted Leicester’s first Aviva Premiership win of the season helped ease Australia’s defeat.

“We all watched it and I have copped a bit of stick for it,” said Salvi about Australia’s Rugby World cup defeat. “It was probably a planned move by Australia in the tournament!

“This win for Tigers does make up for it and is really pleasing. I’ve copped a bit of stick so I’m just waiting for New Zealand to crumble now to get my own back.

“I seemed to run a good line and saw the hole and was lucky enough to get my first try, so I was happy with that.

“We have been unlucky in the last two games so to grunt it out there at the end, we did that and to come away with four points we are very happy.”
