Tigers in the Park has been hailed a huge success after thousands of Leicester Tigers fans joined members of the community for a day of music, games and events.

Leicester Tigers marked the start of the new Aviva Premiership season on Saturday with Tigers in the Park, a free family fun day on Nelson Mandela Park.

"Tigers in the Park helped create a real buzz around the first game of the season,” said David Clayton, Tigers managing director.

“With live music, demonstrations, games and stalls, there was something for everyone and a real community feel surrounding the event.

“It was great to give something back to the community and to see everyone coming together."

Held on Nelson Mandela Park to mark Leicester Tigers’ first game of the 2011-12 season, attractions at Tigers in the Park included X Factor star Laura White, Leicester band Charlie & the Martyrs and Bollywood dancers Desi Masti.

Other attractions included the Army’s climbing wall and mini tank, an inflatable bungee run and stalls.

The new club mascot Welford was unveiled at Tigers in the Park and proved a huge hit with fans, young and old.

Laura White hailed an “amazing day” after headlining the event.

“I loved performing with my live band for the Tigers,” she said. “It was an amazing day and the fans were so supportive.

“It was great to see the community come together at this exciting event. I hope everyone had a lovely day and will look forward to visiting the Tigers again soon. Please keep supporting my music at www.laurawhiteofficial.co.uk .”

Supporters took to the club’s Facebook and Twitter pages to give their reaction to the event.

“Kudos to Tigers for this,” said Greg Whitfield on the Official Leicester Tigers Facebook pages. “ Was really good – my son thoroughly enjoyed all the activities.”

Becki Weston took to her Twitter account @flutterbyroom and said: "@LeicesterTigers just wanted to say really enjoyed Tigers in the Park.”

Pandora’s Aromatics were among the stall holders, and Tweeted from @PandorasAromas: “Had a brilliant day on our stall at Tigers in the Park @LeicesterTigers fun day:)”
