Support for our boys away from home

Figure image
First, a shocking confession in the opening weeks of the Aviva Premiership season - The Tig does not mind confessing to divided loyalties.

No cause for alarm, though, because there is no love greater than the love for the Tigers.

Divided loyalties would never affect undying support for the club, but we’ll need a steady supply of different coloured shirt for international duty over the next few weeks.

For the next few weeks at least The Tig is obviously showing support for England, but also for Argentina, Samoa, Italy and Ireland. Well, for selected individuals in their national colours anyway.

Leicester’s nurturing of English talent over many, many years ensures there is always a steady flow of players from Welford Road into the red rose shirt, but in the professional era we’ve enjoyed the services of so many players from other nations too.

Cheering loudly in support of England, as any good patriot would, The Tig admits to also shouting in support of Horacio Agulla when he took possession of the ball on Saturday morning (and secretly hoped he kept out of the way of Manu). We’ll be kust as passionate in support of Marcos Ayerza when he gets a run-out in the tournament as well.

Sunday brought allegiance to the Azzurri as Castro donned an Italy shirt against Australia, and also support for Geordan as he ran out shoulder to shoulder with his Ireland colleagues. And a huge sigh of relief when he completed his run-out without being dented by the opposition.

Midweek will be enlivened by a show of strength – as if they need it – for Samoa as Alesana looks to do some damage on the world stage.

And while the internationals are away, we’ll give even more to the guys in Tigers shirts back home in the Aviva Premiership. It’s the least we could do!
