Friendship and teamwork on Matchday Clinic

Pupils gave Mark Group Matchday Coaching Clinics the thumbs up after combining "friendship, rugby and team work" with a day out at Leicester Tigers.

Young players from Worksop College in Nottinghamshire were put through their paces in a coaching session at Oval Park.

Tigers coaches tailored the session to suit their needs before taking the players on a tour of the Oval Park training facility.

That was followed by a question and answer session with young Tigers prop Fraser Balmain, as well as the chance to watch the Tigers Academy in action, before taking in the Aviva Premiership fixture with Saracens at Welford Road and a half-time parade around the pitch.

Year 10 pupil Aaron Cawley said: “The coach started by asking us what we thought our teams’ strengths and weaknesses were. He then shaped the training session around that, which I thought was a great idea.

“As we went to get changed the Tigers Academy were running on to the pitch to play Nottingham Academy. It was cool to know we were watching some future stars.

“It was a good day out with friends, rugby and team work, which I recommend and will go on again if I have the chance.”

Year 9 pupil Duncan McGregor-Riley added: “I really enjoyed our visit to Tigers training ground. We did loads of activities and everyone had a great time. I enjoyed watching the game and will look forward to going and watching another.”

Boyd Smith, Worksop College under-14s and under-15s coach, said: “The session was very informative, skill-based and accommodated all levels of ability within the group and challenged those more advanced players.”

Clinics have already sold out for the visit of Northampton Saints to Welford Road on Saturday, December 3, and are filling up fast for the games against Gloucester Rugby, Worcester Warriors and Bath Rugby.

Supported by energy efficiency specialists Mark Group, they are held at Oval Park and at Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College and can be tailored to suit your needs.

Tigers can also help groups link up with local junior teams for a friendly before you return home after a matchday clinic.
