Stourbridge Under-10s have qualified from the last of the regional Prima Tiger Cup festivals for the knockout stages at Welford Road.

They went through Sunday’s festival at Stoke RFC unbeaten to reach the quarter-finals, which will be played before Tigers take on Clermont Auvergne in the Heineken Cup on Saturday, December 17.

Dave Surch, minis and juniors fixture secretary at Stourbridge RFC, said: “There is a lot of prestige associated with the tournament and playing at Welford Road will be something to remember.”

Stourbridge finished top of Pool A with four wins from four games, scoring 12 tries and conceding none.

They played Tamworth in the final, who scored 12 tries and conceded none on the way to finishing top of Pool B with a 100 per cent winning record.

Stourbridge won a close, hard-fought final 2-1 to book their place in the last eight.

“It was an excellent festival and Stoke RFC were fantastic hosts,” Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said. “The ten teams overcame heavy fog to produce a high standard of rugby, which was played in the right spirit. Congratulations to all involved.”

Stourbridge join under-10s teams from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, Kesteven in Lincolnshire, Melbourne in Derbyshire, holders Oakham, Solihull-based Silhillians, Leicestershire side Syston and West Norfolk, who have already booked their quarter-final spots.

Now in its 18th season, the Prima Tiger Cup is supported by Loughborough-based Prima Solutions and is open to under-10s teams from across the country with more than 50 clubs entering this year.
