International opposition for Academy

International rugby returns to Welford Road next weekend when the Leicester Tigers Academy host England Under-18s.

Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday, January 29 and admission is free to all supporters. The Holland & Barrett Stand will be open.

The fixture allows the Academy squad to test themselves against the national squad and an intriguing afternoon is in prospect.

Tigers Academy manager Neil McCarthy said: “We’ve had a very good record against representative teams, including being the only team to beat England Under-18s a couple of years ago.

“We’ve had good wins against teams from Wales and Scotland, we beat England Academies too, which is a real feather in the cap for the club.]

“But just as important is the opportunity for individual players and the squad as a whole to challenge themselves in a really competitive environment.

“The England games are one of the highlights of the season for the players, and we know that the England guys get a lot out of these fixtures too as they approach their own international season.

“All the guys love to have the opportunity to run out at Welford Road, especially if we can get a big crowd in on the day, and that provides a big motivation for young players.”
