Supporter advice: City centre this Saturday

Figure image
Supporters travelling to Saturday's match at Welford Road are advised of disruption in the city centre.

Marches by the English Defence League and also by Leicester Unite Against Fascism are being staged in the city and, although the routes do not affect the immediate vicinity of Welford Road stadium, supporters are advised there is likely to be transport disruption and are recommended to find alternative routes.

The EDL assembly is based at St Margaret's Pastures, with the march start and finish at St Margaret’s Way next to Abbey Park, and including Burley’s Way, Belgrave Gate and Churchgate.

The LUAF route uses Pocklington’s Walk, Horsefair Street, Halford Street, Charles Street, Rutland Street and Belvoir Street.

The marches are likely to pass through the city from 12.30pm until 2pm, with any further rally to be concluded by 4pm.

St Margaret's Way inbound is scheduled for closure from 10am, and the other assembly point in King Street will also close from 10am. Diversions will be in operation.

Leicestershire Police have asked licensed premises in the area not to open between 8am and 1pm.

The city centre, and bus and railway stations, are likely to be more crowded than usual and Police advice is that some public bus routes will be temporarily diverted and bus-stops altered.

Allow extra time for your journey if you approach the march routes and, wherever possible, please use alternative routes this weekend.

Return routes should be in operation again in time for supporters returning home after Saturday's game.

Tigers supporter buses, run in conjunction with Arriva, are in operation this Saturday from Oakham, Market Harborough and Nuneaton/Hinckley, dropping off and picking up just outside the stadium. The T3 service also features a new pick-up and drop-off point in Huncote. Click here for supporter bus details.
