Thomas Waldrom, Leicester Tigers' Supporters' Player of the Year in 2010/11, has agreed a new contract at the club.

The New Zealand-born No8 made his 50th appearance for Tigers in the LV= Cup win over Newcastle Falcons during February and scored a try in the game which booked the club’s place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Waldrom, 28, ended his first season at Leicester as the supporters’ choice for Newcomer and Player of the Year, and then joined the England squad at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand as an injury replacement.

Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill said: “Thomas has fitted in very well here. We knew he was a very good player when we first brought him to the club and he has developed well in his time with us.

“He brings some different qualities to the back-row combinations in the squad and we think he’ll continue to get better and better working within the Tigers environment.

“We’re looking forward to seeing him continue to play an important role within the squad and I’m delighted he has agreed to stay.”

Waldrom said: “I’ve really enjoyed my rugby with Leicester over the last two seasons and I am very happy to agree a new contract.

“I have a lot to thank the club for because I would not have got where I am now without Leicester Tigers.

“Everyone at the club has helped me and my family settle in the area, and the supporters have been great to me.

“Now I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and we just want to make the most of our opportunities.”
