Sport Relief runners visit Welford Road

Welford Road hosted a Sports Relief charity challenge when a group of runners completed a mile around the edge of the pitch.

The home of Leicester Tigers was the venue for the 10th leg of a tour of the Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs, which began at Exeter’s Sandy Park at 3pm on Thursday.

Brett Dalby, Jez Daniels, James Downey, Simon Garlick, Simon Mccune and Paul Tomlinson, nicknamed the Shire Boys, have been running a mile at each ground to raise money for Sports Relief. They finished their efforts at Newcastle’s Kingston Park on Friday night.

“It has been hard work,” said Garlick, landlord at The Red Lion pub in Great Bowden near Market Harborough where the idea was dreamed up.

“The mile run isn’t so bad, it is the drive in between, the warming up and the cooling down and the stiff joints that make it tough.”
