Pohe one of eight changes for England U18s

Tigers Academy centre Javiah Pohe will make his first start in the FIRA tournament after being named in the England Under 18s side to face Wales Under 18s in Madrid on Tuesday (kick-off 2.30pm BST).

Tigers Academy team-mates George Catchpole, Harry Rudkin and Harry Thacker started England's opening game of the tournament, a 58-8 win over Georgia, with Pohe coming off the bench.

Pohe starts the second game in one of eight changes made by England head coach John Fletcher, and joins hooker Thacker in the starting XV. Prop Rudkin and centre Catchpole are among the England replacements.

“I like coming away because it’s something new, we have a really good group of players who all play for each other and play for the shirt and that’s what it’s all about,” said Pohe

“There are some really talented players in the centres and I enjoy the competition. Our aim is to improve game on game and so far I think we’re achieving that.”

Ireland and France contest the other semi, with the final set to be played next Saturday, but Fletcher said: “We’re just really looking forward to the game tomorrow, we’ve reviewed Georgia and there are areas to improve on – but we’re just looking to get better each game we play.

“It will be a really tough contest against the Welsh, they’ve played well in their three games this season and we know it’s going to be a good match. But our players are very much looking forward to it and can’t wait to get out there.”
