Welford Road is hosting a dinner in honour of club record appearance-holder David Matthews, celebrating his 75th birthday and remarkable 57-year association with Leicester Tigers.

More than 150 past captains and players have been invited – including current skipper Geordan Murphy, Martin Johnson, Dean Richards and Paul Dodge – and supporters can share in the evening too in the Premiership Suite of the Caterpillar Stand on Wednesday, April 25.

David scored 109 tries in 502 appearances for Tigers and will be our guest of honour at the dinner which is being staged to commemorate his birthday and long association with the club.

He will be joined by previous captains, players and coaches, directors, friends and supporters at this unique occasion in the club’s history.

A back-rower from a Rutland farming family, David joined Leicester Tigers from Oakham School and made his first-team debut in 1955. He remained a Tigers player until 1974 and also represented Leicestershire, Midlands Counties (East) and the Barbarians.

He has served Tigers as captain, coach, director, president and life member, and is acknowledged in the Walk of Legends and the Legends Gallery in the Caterpillar Stand at Welford Road.

The tribute dinner features three-course meal and interviews with some of the club’s greatest names throughout the evening. Dress code is lounge suits/jacket and tie. Tickets are available now from the Tigers ticket office, price £45 (season ticket holders) and £50 (all other supporters). Phone the ticket office on 0844 856 1880, call in at Welford Road or book online
