Kevin's Marathon effort for Ourspace

Kevin Mannion, the Tigers Academy strength and conditioning coach, is among a team of runners in Sunday's London Marathon supporting the Ourspace Appeal, official charity of the Junior Tigers Club.

Leicester Hospitals Charity, with the support of a number of charitable trusts, launched the Ourspace Appeal to create a purpose-built cancer unit for children and young people at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. They are working hard to establish a cancer unit with dedicated space for children aged up to 13 years and a Teenage Cancer Trust unit for young people aged 13-24 with bedrooms and an area for relaxation.

With support from community groups, individuals and a number of charitable trusts, they have already topped £1million in gifts and pledges for the Ourspace Appeal towards their £1.4million target.

Ourspace enjoyed a successful day at the Tigers match against Worcester Warriors last month, collecting around £9,000 on the day. Tigers welcomed the family of George Dronfield, who received treatement at the LRI cancer ward, as guests of honour for the game and they delivered the matchaball in front of a big Welford road crowd and a live TV audience.

The Ourspace marathon runners Dr Samantha Jones, Colin Esler, Matthew Dacombe, Helen Parry, Claire Willday, Paul Gowdridge and BBC Radio Leicester’s Ian Stringer also ran a lap of the pitch at half-time and received an excellent reception from supports of both clubs.
