Super Chuter - one of our very own

For a guy with a southern accent, there's no mistaking George Chuter has earned his place in the Tigers Family.

He started this season as captain of a team of Leicester young guns missing the international stars, then he collected an award in recognition of his 250th game for Leicester at the match against London Irish.

Just last week he became the first player to make 250 appearances in the Premiership – with about 180 of them in a Tigers shirt.

The Tig has read somewhere that he is also the only man to have played against every team who have ever been in the Premiership – including the long-gone likes of Richmond, West Hartlepool and Orrell.

Supporters honoured him a couple of weeks ago with the Outstanding Service Award at the annual awards night and he amused and entertained in equal measure in his interview on stage.

Asked what motivates him to keep going, Chutes generally shrugs and says “I keep asking myself that same question” and suggests something along the lines of “I’m not sure I can do anything else really.”

He’s kidding no one.

Chutes appears to The Tig, and many other supporters, to be in prime form as he approaches his 36th birthday, even if the national coaches are looking elsewhere these days.

Fighting above his weight in the modern front rows, Chutes is held in high regard for his work in the set-piece and has under-rated ball skills – don’t we just love the little ‘eyes front’ pop passes on the touchline.

His programme notes aren’t bad either!

This week he runs out for his 200th start for Leicester Tigers, in an Aviva Premiership semi-final. He richly deserves his place up there alongside the rest of the clubmen who have hit that mark.

We love him so much, we’ve even forgotten he started as a Saracen!
