Leicester Tigers players past and present have been putting their best feet forward on the fourth annual Walk4Matt.

Marcos Ayerza, Louis Deacon, Ed Slater and Boris Stankovich joined Walk4Matt at the launch event at Merchants Inn in Rugby on Friday night.

Tigers wing Mathew Tait walked Saturday morning’s first leg of the 110-mile trek, which started at the birthplace of the sport in Rugby and finishes at the Aviva Premiership Final at Twickenham.

George Chuter, Logovi’i Mulipola, Alesana and Manu Tuilagi, and Ryan Bower dropped in on Saturday evening to help mark the end of the first day’s walking.

And former Tigers and England back rower Lewis Moody took part in a stretch of Walk4Matt on Monday afternoon.

“The event is going really well,” says Matt Hampson. “We have been quite lucky with the weather, which always helps, and everyone is enjoying themselves.”

Walk4Matt raises money for the Matt Hampson Foundation, SpecialEffect and a charity of choice from each participating Premiership Rugby Club.

Today’s (Tuesday, May 22) leg will finish at Tring Cricket Club, which is hosting a Twenty20 cricket match in aid of the Matt Hampson Foundation.

Former Leicestershire cricketer Paul Nixon is due to don his whites alongside fellow Matt Hampson Foundation ambassadors and former Tigers players Harry Ellis and Freddie Tuilagi. Ex-Tigers players Matt Cornwell and James Buckland are also due to play alongside Will Fraser and Jamie George, of Saracens, plus BBC Radio Leicester’s former county cricketer Charles Dagnall and ex-England opening bowler Phil DeFreitas.

The game starts at 5.30pm and Tigers fans are encouraged to come and watch.

Tigers fans are also encouraged to join Walk4Matt at any stage during the week. For route information and details of how you can get involved see the website www.matthampsonfoundation.org
