Waldrom wants to make most of Final chance

Thomas Waldrom says Leicester Tigers are determined to capitalise on their Aviva Premiership Final opportunity after a difficult start to the season.

Tigers were 11th in the Aviva Premiership table after five defeats in the opening six games. However, just one defeat in the remaining 16 fixtures, including a Premiership record six consecutive bonus-point victories, saw Richard Cockerill’s men finish second in the regular season.

A 24-15 victory over Saracens at Welford Road then put Tigers into their eighth successive Premiership Final, where they will play Harlequins.

Tigers go into Saturday’s game aiming for a record tenth English title and a domestic double after lifting the LV= Cup in March.

“We had a bad start to the season and we want to capitalise on what we have done in the last few weeks to get this far,” says Waldrom.

“When the players came back from the World Cup we weren’t happy with where we were in the table. We had to dig deep to come back and do it the Tigers way.

“Richard Cockerill and Matt O’Connor set the standards and everyone is on the same playing field.

“Slowly we climbed our way up the table to where we wanted to be. Hopefully we can cap it off on Saturday.”
