Thank you for strength of support again this season

Leicester Tigers would like to thank everyone who showed their support for the club home and away this season.

A huge contingent of supporters made the trip to Twickenham on Saturday and turned the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final into a colourful and noisy occasion.

Club chairman Peter Tom CBE said: “Although we couldn’t provide the finishing touch and bring the trophy back, that didn't diminish our fans’ enthusiasm in the slightest, and I would like to pass on the thanks of the whole club to everyone who came to support us.

“They were magnificent, not just at Twickenham but at home and away throughout the season.

“The Tigers enjoy huge support wherever the team are playing, and when I am away on business there is always a very keen interest in the club.

“We have seen particularly strong growth in the numbers of young supporters and family groups in recent seasons too and that is a reflection of the matchday atmosphere at the club.”

Tigers supporters made an eighth successive annual trip to Twickenham for the Premiership Final on Saturday, and Mr Tom added: “All the supporters we met after the game, from both teams, were very gracious and that says a lot for them all.

“Whether they were Tigers supporters heading home in disappointment, or Quins supporters celebrating a big victory, there was a lot of mutual respect and that is great to see in the professional club game in this country.”

Tigers also pass on their thanks to all the coach drivers and stewards who helped to take more than 1,000 supporters from Welford Road on Saturday, and to the drivers and bus companies who stepped in to assist those whose coach was unable to leave Oxford services after a breakdown.

“Being consistently among the best clubs in the country demands a huge effort from everyone in the club, from the players, to coaches and support team, and all the staff at Welford Road,” Mr Tom added. “The preparations for next season are already under way and we look forward to the return to league action in September.”
