Welford Road hosts charity challenge

Welford Road is the setting this weekend for a unique charity challenge.

A fitness group is taking part in a burpee marathon at the home of Leicester Tigers to raise money for Loros.

Personal instructors from Be Fitter and their clients aim to cover 26 miles around the stadium in a non-stop burpee relay. Their burpees are made up of the usual squat-thrust but finish with a leap forward to cover the distance.

They started the challenge at 10am on Friday and expect to finish on Sunday morning.

Zack George, Be-Fitter instructor, says it is the first time an attempt has been made to cover a marathon distance with burpees.

“It’s 87 laps around the stadium,” he said. “We are going through the day and through the night non-stop. There is a group of us and we are doing it in relay.

“We checked and it is the first time it has ever been done.”

Zack added: “A burpee works so many muscle groups. It is mentally and physically challenging.

“A lot of us know from personal experience about the great work of Loros – it is a great.”
