Pupils take a look Inside Sport

Leicester Tigers helped bring classroom studies to life for a group of schoolchildren during an Olympics-themed day at Welford Road.

Pupils from St Peter & St Paul C of E Primary School in Syston took part in athletics events including the javelin, shot putt, hurdles and relay races as part of Tigers’ Inside Sport programme.

The year five and six pupils also learned about the core values of the Olympics, and about health, nutrition and hydration.

They received a tour of Welford Road, including a look into the changing rooms in the Holland & Barrett Stand, the hospitality boxes in the Goldsmiths Stand and the trophy cabinet in the Caterpillar Stand.

Alisha Salih, PE coordinator and teacher at St Peter & St Paul C of E Primary School, said the Inside Sport day complemented the children’s classroom studies.

“They have a much better understanding of the Olympics values and what it means to be a sportsman,” Alisha said.

“Being in the ground as big as Welford Road was a huge experience for them and they were amazed by the changing rooms.”

Earlier this season, year 3 and 4 children at the Leicestershire school took part in Tigers’ Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme.

Tigers coaches spent five weeks introducing the children and their teachers to the tag form of rugby.

The children will take part in a festival to mark the end of the programme at Syston RFC on Wednesday, where they will be joined by other schools in the Charnwood area that have taken part in this season’s programme.
