Leicester Tigers shared in the festivities organised by Leicester City Council and LOCOG to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay to Leicester this week.

Abbey Park hosted the torch on Monday evening as it completed it relay journey from Coventry via Corby, Market Harborough, Foxton and into the city on the 45th day of its journey.

The Tigers community department ran rugby activities throughout the afternoon as part of the Health Zone activities, which also included football and cycling, and the new Maul photobooth welcomed visitors.

Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson joined the fun in Abbey Park and talked to young sportspeople about what inspired her to become an athlete, before former Leicester City and England football star Gary Lineker set the torch on its way from the National Space Centre for day 46.

One of the official torchbearers, 12-year-old Ryan Cooper, was among the visitors to the Tigers stand to lift the LV= Cup and his Olympic Torch.
