Tigers squad for JP Morgan Sevens

Leicester Tigers have named their squad ahead of the JP Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby Sevens at Edgeley Park on Friday night.

Matt Cornwell, who rejoined Tigers this summer after spells at Exeter Chiefs, Northampton Saints and Italian side Mogliano, captains the squad.

He is joined by Academy graduate Alex Lewington and centre Andy Symons, who played their parts in Tigers’ run to LV= Cup success last season.

The squad also includes Academy graduates Joe Cain and George Oliver as well as Academy players Tom Hudson, Harry Wells, Tom Bellak and Harrison Lee Everton. Academy wing Luke Jones replaced Pasqualle Dunn in the squad after Dunn pulled out through injury while triallists Lawrence Wooldridge and Brock Davies complete the squad.

Academy manager Neil McCarthy said: “The JP Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby Sevens gives our young players exposure in a really good competition. It presents an opportunity to express themselves on a big stage and to show the coaches what they can do ahead of the season.”

Cornwell added: “We have a lot of raw talent in the club and sevens is a good opportunity to go out and show what you can do and put a marker down.

“The fitness and conditioning is good too at this stage. Sevens is the hardest form of the game physically so you have to be ready and I’m looking forward to giving it a crack.”
