Craig Newby says he is looking forward to leading a Leicester Tigers XI in a triangular Twenty20 cricket competition at Grace Road.

Tigers take on a Matt Hampson Foundation XI and a Lords Taverners XI at the home of Leicestershire County Cricket Club on Sunday, August 19.

Newby scored an unbeaten century for the Tigers XI two seasons ago and captains the team. He said: “We pride ourselves on our cricketing ability and will be fielding a strong team.

“The boys are all looking forward to playing at Grace Road against some cricket Legends and some of our former teammates.”

The Tigers squad is set to include Anthony Allen, Kieran Brookes and Toby Flood as well as Scott Hamilton, Sam Harrison and Matt Smith.

The Matt Hampson Foundation XI is already taking shape. Foundation ambassador Paul Nixon will captain a side that includes former England international bowler Phil Defreitas, BBC Radio Leicester’s former Leicestershire bowler Charles Dagnall and former Tigers stars Harry Ellis, Andy Goode and Freddie Tuilagi.

It promises to be a great day for the whole family with three Twenty20 fixtures taking centre stage. The Tigers roadshow vehicle The Maul will be there and supporters will be able to have their photo taken with the LV= Cup, meet club mascot Welford and try their hand at the Speed Pass Challenge and young fans can sign up to the Junior Tigers Club.

There will also be a bouncy castle, the Matt Hampson Foundation’s own Speed Pass Challenge, wheelchair basketball displays, a book signing by Matt Hampson and the chance to meet the players and get autograph and photos.

Tickets are £1 for juniors, £5 for adults and are available now from Leicestershire County Cricket Club on 0116 245 2401, email [email protected] or click here
