Leicester Tigers pass their condolences to the family and friends of Mitchell Todd and to everyone at Nottingham Rugby after hearing of the young forward's death this week.

A product of the Nottingham Academy, 21-year-old Todd was killed in a road traffic accident on Wednesday.

He played for Leicester Lions and Birmingham Solihull as well as representing Scotland Under-20s and gained first-team experience with Nottingham in the British and Irish Cup last season.

Tigers chief executive Simon Cohen said: “We have had strong links with Nottingham Rugby over a number of years and are shocked and saddened to hear the news concerning Mitchell Todd.

“Everyone at Leicester Tigers passes on their condolences to the family and friends of Mitchell, and to his colleagues at Nottingham Rugby.”

Nottingham's match against Loughborough Students, scheduled for this weekend, has been cancelled.

A Nottingham Rugby statement said: “Mitchell was an exceptional talent and a highly valued member of the squad. He will be missed by all of those that knew him. Our thoughts are with Mitchell's family and friends at this difficult time.”

Tigers face Nottingham at Welford Road on Saturday, August 25 in the final pre-season fixture for both clubs before the opening of their league campaigns at the start of September. A minute’s silence will be held ahead of the 3.00pm kick-off in memory of Mitchell Todd.
