Leicester Tigers are continuing their support of South Leicestershire College's (SLC) Academy of Sport in the Rugby Academy.

Tigers community coaches will provide students at the South Wigston-based college with top-class coaching.

Jim Aleander, South Leicestershire College interim principal, said: “This is an exciting time for South Leicestershire College and we welcome our sporting partners for the 2012/2013 academic year.

“The Academy of Sport and Sports Development Centres will help enhance the performance of our students as well as helping them achieve their goals-both sporting and educational. You never know you may see some SLC sporting talent in the next Olympics in 2016.”

Tigers and South Leicestershire College’s Academy of Sport are now in the fourth year of their partnership. Students aged 16-19 can enrol in the college and take part in rugby coaching from Tigers while continuing their studies for nationally recognised qualifications.

Tigers community manager Scott Clarke said: "We are delighted to continue our support of SLC’s Academy of Sport in the Rugby Academy. It will give opportunities to many young rugby players across the Tigers region.

"The Tigers community department works very hard to encourage youngsters to achieve using sport as the catalyst and we feel the Rugby Academy at South Leicestershire College helps those who may be looking for inspiration and direction to move their prospects forward."

SLC has widened its field of sporting interests for 2012 by teaming up with Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket to introduce a new Cricket Sports Development Centre. It also provides opportunities in athletics and endurance, boxing and mixed martial arts.
