The sun is set to shine on the opening home game of the Aviva Premiership season and Tigers in the Park.

The forecast for Saturday, when Tigers host Worcester Warriors at Welford Road to signal the start of the new home campaign, is for bright sunshine and highs of around 24C.

ITV Central weather presenter Lucy Kite said: “Not sure I'd like to be running around in that heat!”

The clash between Tigers and Worcester kicks off at 3pm, while the action at Tigers in the Park, which is free to enter, starts at 11am.

Tigers are taking over Nelson Mandela Park, opposite the stadium, for a family fun day of live music, performances and demonstrations as well as stalls, food and games.

Leicester band Uncle Frank, who are fronted by Fun Lovin’ Criminals drummer Frank Benbini and Naim Cortazzi, a former guitarist with the Happy Mondays, headline Tigers in the Park.

“We have been all over the world and back several times but when we play Leicester we like it to be a special occasion, a real party atmosphere,” says Cortazzi, who described their sound as Barry White meets Jack Black and Burt Bacharach.

Local trio The Chizzitts open the live music after being selected from the Tigers' battle of the bands challenge on the club's official Facebook page. They will be followed by The Method, led by singer/songwriter Ash Adams. By The Rivers will bring a feel of British summertime to the party at 1pm with their reggae party music.

The arena will host Tom Shilcock, of So You Think You Can Dance, and his dancers from Dupont Stage School Leicester.

Club mascot Welford and some of the Tigers players will be joining the fun. Fans will have a chance to test their skills in the Extreme Pass Challenge and win a family pass to the big match, as well as the chance to see how it is done with a skills session presented by Tigers Academy.

Other attractions include the Tigers Tented Shopping Village, Junior Tigers Club Sport Park and Fans' Food Court.
