Team news: Leicester Tigers homecoming

Figure image
Geordan Murphy will lead out Leicester Tigers for the first home game of his 16th season at the club when they host Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership on Saturday (3.00pm).

Ireland international Murphy has made more than 300 appearances for Tigers since his debut in 1997, scoring 93 tries.

Scott Hamilton is in line for his 100th starting appearance in a backline showing just one change from last week’s victory at London Welsh as Sam Harrison steps in for the injured Micky Young at scrum-half. Vereniki Goneva makes his first appearance in a competitive fixture at Welford Road following his summer move from Tarbes in France.

In the forward pack there is a recall for props Boris Stankovich and Martin Castrogiovanni, and second-row Graham Kitchener for their first starts of the season.

Australian scrum-half Pat Phibbs is called up to the matchday squad following Young’s ankle injury.

“Worcester were very much up for the battle against Bath last weekend and we expect another tough contest,” said Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill. “We have to be accurate in what we are doing. Whenever we made mistakes against London Welsh it cost us and that is a warning.”
