Thousands of Leicester Tigers fans and members of the community joined together for a day of fun in the sun at Tigers in the Park.

Tigers marked the first home game of the new Aviva Premiership Rugby season against Worcester Warriors with Tigers in the Park, a free family fun day on Nelson Mandela Park opposite Welford Road stadium.

Almost 5,000 people enjoyed the sunshine, soaked up the atmosphere and partied to live music before kick-off in the big match. Leicester band Uncle Frank headlined the music bill, which also included By The Rivers, The Method and The Chizzitts.

Players from the Tigers Academy ran a series of rugby skills sessions and fans could also try volleyball, table tennis, wheelchair basketball and the Paralympic sport boccia.

Other attractions included golf coaching and mini golf, bouncy castles, a rodeo surfboard and sumo suit battles.

Chris Rose, Tigers head of brand, said: “The first home match of the season is a chance to celebrate with our supporters and Tigers in the Park helped create a real buzz around the game.

“There was something for everyone and a real community feel surrounding the event, and  it was great to see so many fans enjoying themselves in the sun.

"It was great to give something back to the community and to see everyone coming together."

Supporters took to the Tigers Facebook and Twitter pages to give their reaction to the event.

“Tigers in the park 2 was fantastic, so much for the kids to do,” said Kathy Harrison on the Official Leicester Tigers Facebook pages. “Great day out, Welford and Crusha were fantastic too. Well done to all involved and looking forward to tigers in the park 3. Well done Tigers :-)”

On Twitter, @AvrilDisney posted: “Took my little tiger down to Tigers in the Park, what lovely weather and a great day.”
