We're on our way to Wembley

Wemb-ley Wemb-ley, we're the famous Leicester Tigers and we're going to Wemb-ley.

You might not know the tune, but it’s a variation on a well-known song around the nation’s football grounds and now, for the first time, Tigers can sing their own version.

Groundshares with football clubs are nothing new to Premiership clubs, or even on some of our European tours – Toulouse move their biggest games to the city’s football stadium and Aironi hosted Tigers at a second division football ground in Monza last season – but to go to the world’s most famous football venue is a new one on us.

Saracens lie in wait. And it’s only the third round of a Aviva Premiership season which is already providing try-scoring excitement and high scoring-games.

The iconic venue adds to an occasion that already promises so much.

Cockers played at the ‘old’ Wembley with England, though defeat by Wales will have affected his recall of the match. One or two others in the squad have been before, but it is a new trip for the majority of the players and certainly for most of the travelling support.

Breaking new ground is always a highlight for The Tig and, after trips to Jersey and Oxford already this campaign, we’ll be chalking off more virgin territory this weekend.

We know Sarries put on a show for their big events with the dancing girls and the live pop acts, but everything else we know about the stadium is learned from watching the football.

This time, though, the tackling will be for real, the only diving will be done in the act of scoring and a ruck involves tough nuts from both sides rather than a bunch from one of them chasing the referee.
