Louis Deacon's benefit year kicked off with more than 200 Leicester Tigers supporters at Welford Road on Wednesday evening.

Supporters at the launch's Pie & Pint Night were invited to be the first to try the new Tiger Green Bullet beer brewed specially by Everards for the benefit year, while they also had the opportunity to put questions to players Brett Deacon, Tom Youngs, Boris Stankovich, George Chuter and Manu Tuilagi.

Tigers second-rower Deacon, who is in his 13th season in the first-team squad, said: “I’m really pleased with the way tonight turned out. The committee have done a great job and it is good to see such support for the benefit year and for the two chosen charities, the Matt Hampson Foundation and Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

“It was great to start with an informal event just for the supporters and it was great to see so many of them here.”

The next benefit year event is the Kings Of Europe – History Makers dinner next Wednesday, when Welford Road will welcome back players from the historic squad of 2002 who retained the Heineken Cup. Guests include Graham Rowntree, Lewis Moody, Richard Cockerill, Darren Garforth, Tim Stimpson , Geordan Murphy, captain Martin Johnson and man-of-the-match Austin Healey and there will be no shortage of fun in their company.

Limited places are still available for this historic occasion. Email [email protected] for more details.
