Leicester Tigers favourites Daryl Gibson and Jamie Hamilton are relishing the opportunity to return to Welford Road with the Maori All Blacks.

Former centre Gibson and long-serving scrum-half Hamilton will be back on their former home ground as part of the Maori management team for the three-match tour of the UK which starts against Tigers next Tuesday.

A Premiership title-winner as a player at Tigers, Gibson says: “I left Leicester in 2007, but my oldest daughter was born here and I always keep in touch with what is going on at the club and watch their games on TV whenever I can.

“It’ll be great to come back to Welford Road with the Maori squad. The place has changed a bit since I left and I’m really looking forward to the game.

“As a squad we want to play an attractive style of rugby, play with a passion and we really want to enjoy the game, so it should be a great occasion.”

Hamilton was a multiple league champion and double Heineken Cup winner before becoming video analyst at Tigers, which is a role he now fulfils with Crusaders, Canterbury and the Maori touring squad.

“I’ve spoken to the boys quite a lot about what a great place this is to play rugby,” he said before taking a look around his old home at Welford Road.

“It’s great to come back here and be involved in a match against Tigers. Hopefully we’ll see a really good game and it should be a really good occasion for both teams and the supporters.”
