Waldrom ready for Twickenham Test debut

Thomas Waldrom has warned England of the dangers of his Tigers team-mate Vereniki Goneva ahead of today's clash with Fiji at Twickenham.

Goneva, Tigers’ Goldsmiths Player of the Month for September, starts at centre for Fiji in the opening QBE International of the autumn series and is one of eight Leicester players on duty at HQ this afternoon.

Waldrom, who starts at No8 for England, says: “I know what he can bring. He can sidestep in a phone box and you just have to be on your toes. You can’t afford to give him that space.”

Waldrom will run out for his Twickenham Test debut alongside Tigers team-mates Dan Cole, Toby Flood, Geoff Parling, Tuilagi and Tom Youngs, who makes his Test debut. His brother Ben Youngs is among the replacements.

The 29-year-old says: “I am really looking forward to it, especially runing out at Twickenham in front of 80,000 people.

“I’ve been for the Aviva Premiership Final with Tigers but the results didn’t go our way. It’ll be good to put on the England shirt and run out especially in a sold out Twickenham.

“It’s not going to be easy but we have to concentrate on ourselves and build for the next four weeks. Fiji are different – they’ll be a tough opposition.

“We’ve been training well, we’ve had two weeks leading into this game and we want to put a performance down.

“This week is going to be a big opportunity for a lot of us and hopefully we can take that with both hands.”
