The Haka Comes to Welford Road

Figure image
At the evening kick off at Welford Road Stadium on Tuesday night Tigers did not quiver to the famous performance of the Haka. Tigers went on to beat the Maori All Blacks 32-24 in front of 17,000 supporters! A minutes silence was held for Remembrance Sunday before both teams sang their national anthems.

We were lucky enough to have down Maori performers from the Ng?ti Toa Maori tribe of New Zealand who performed their traditional tribal dance in the JTC area.  They gave all JTC members an hour long workshop on Maori traditions and taught them the famous Haka.  We have some great pictures from the day, check them out by clicking on the link http://www.leicestertigers.com/fans/jtc/galleries.php .

Two Tigers players, Alex Lewington and Andrew Symons also visited the JTC area and enjoyed watching everyone perform the Haka whilst making milkshakes.  Andrew picked Roan Smith out of the JTC mascot ballot and was joined by Harry and Ryan O’Connor to run out onto the pitch with the Tigers team. All three mascots also got the chance to stand alongside the players facing The Maori All Blacks when they performed the Haka.

For your chance to be a mascot on the day just ask to enter the ballot at the JTC reception. Also, Tiger Cubs are back in action this week so remember to enter that ballot too and show the crowed your best try!

On Sunday Tigers take on London Irish in the LV= Cup kick-off 3pm. The JTC VIP area will be open from 1pm so make sure you come down and have a go at all our activities, take a look at   http://www.leicestertigers.com/fans/jtc/whats_on.php at 5pm on Friday to see which player will make an appearance!
