Now it's our turn again

Welcome back to the senior internationals, out of the white or blue or red, or heaven forbid the purple, of their national teams.

The draw for a World Cup still three years away will keep England in the news for a few more days, but it’s about the clubs again now and, for us, that means the Leicester Tigers having the strength in depth and quality in depth that is required for the Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup contests ahead.

Back on November 1, this blog talked about how any player showing good form for Tigers meant “good news for England” in the eyes of the national media.

The tig is turning that observation on its head right here and right now.

The form of Tom Youngs, now an international front-rower with four intense Tests under his belt, is good news for Tigers ahead of a crunch period of the season in domestic and continental competition.

Dan Cole is one of the foremost tighthead props in the world and was England’s most-capped player in the line-up which beat the mighty All Blacks. That is good news for Leicester.

Geoff Parling has now played a dozen Test matches and showed up well in the autumn series, which is good news for Leicester.

Ben Youngs has played in four successive Tests, getting good game-time after a stop-start season so far, looking sharper by the minute and enjoying the Test environment alongside brother Tom and his Tigers clubmates. That is good news too for Leicester.

Manu Tuilagi has had the finger pointed at various stages in the autumn, some of it coming from media who talk about seeing him play wing or inside centre for England rather than the club position at outside centre. His form against the New Zealanders, and the relish with which he took on the challenge, is great news for Leicester.

Having Thomas Waldrom play in two Tests then come back to club duty just when Tigers needed the numbers is good news for the club, if not for The Tank. Toby Flood having a sore toe rather than a broken one is good news for Tigers.

The Tig hopes there is good news for Anthony Allen somewhere down the line too. His consistency and reliability help those around him and Tigers supporters are united in thinking he deserves a shout at an England shirt at some stage.

It’s all good news. If they can maintain their world champion-beating form for Leicester Tigers right through December and January then that might just be some pleasant news for England by Six Nations time too.
