RFU ban Deacon for one week

Brett Deacon has received a one-week ban from an RFU disciplinary hearing following his red card in Saturday's Aviva Premiership Rugby match against Bath Rugby.

The Leicester Tigers back-rower appeared before the disciplinary panel in Bristol on Tuesday evening after receiving a red card for punching or striking an opponent, contrary to Law 10.4 (a). The played pleaded guilty to the charge.

Deacon was given a one-week ban and ordered to pay £500 towards hearing costs. He is free to play again on December 11.

He had already been suspended from playing for one week by the club following an internal disciplinary hearing and will miss Sunday’s home game against Benetton Treviso in the Heineken Cup.

Matt Banahan of Bath Rugby appeared before the same panel after receiving a red card for a dangerous tackle, contrary to Law 10.4 (e), in the same fixture.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was given a three-week ban and ordered to pay £500 towards hearing costs. He is free to play again on December 24.

Lee Mears of Bath Rugby appeared before the panel after being cited for punching or striking an opponent, contrary to Law 10.4 (a) following a report from the independent citing officer John Byett.

The player pleaded guilty to the charge and was given a two-week ban and ordered to pay £500 towards hearing costs. He is free to play again on December 17.

Francois Louw of Bath Rugby appeared before the Panel after receiving a red card for punching or striking an opponent, contrary to Law 10.4 (a).  The citing was dismissed.

The panel comprised Christopher Quinlan QC, Nick Dark and John Brennan.
