Pitch protected ahead of LV= Cup clash

The Welford Road pitch has been protected from frost ahead of today's LV= Cup tie with London Wasps. Kick-off is at 3pm and the ticket office is open all day.

There are two games for the price of one with Welford Road also staging an Aviva Premiership Rugby Under-18 League match between Tigers and Gloucester after the final whistle of the LV= Cup game.

The Welford Road playing surface has been covered all week with the Sports Stadia Service MacLeod heatdome keeping frost out of the page, while remaining snow and ice has been cleared from the stadium.

The dome, which is inflated with warm air to insulate the pitch against the cold, was put in place after the final whistle had sounded on last Sunday’s Heineken Cup victory over Toulouse. It will stay in place this morning.

Tigers have had a team on standby to clear any snow with the aid of Leicester City Council, a Telehandler supplied by main club sponsor Caterpillar, and Breedon Aggregates, who will have a tipper truck to take any snow away from the ground.

Tickets are still available for today's double header. Book at the Welford Road ticket office, phone 0844 856 1880 or online by clicking here and collect on your way to the game.
