Aviva Premiership Tag Rugby this Sunday

Leicester Tigers are heading to Oadby Wyggestonian RFC on Sunday to host a Tag Rugby Fun Day as part of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme.

The fun day, aimed at school years 3 and 4, will run from 10.30am until noon on Sunday (February 3) and is free to enter.

Tigers community coaches will run tag rugby sessions for children to help develop teamwork, communication and co-ordination skills as well as individual tag rugby ability.

The day will include mini games and competitions, and the chance to meet new friends.

The Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme is run by the 12 Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs. Tigers are running the programme in Leicester and Norfolk, and will be working with more than 100 schools this season.

The programme represents a significant investment of £2million by Aviva, the world's sixth-largest insurance group, into the grassroots of the game.

During the season, the programme involves 15,000 hours of coaching reaching more than 39,000 Key Stage 2 pupils from 650 primary schools. With the initiative due to be repeated during the next two seasons as well, that means involving 150,000 young people who may not otherwise have been exposed to the sport.

Sarah Loughran, head of corporate sponsorship at Aviva, said: "Key for Aviva was the ability for us to be able to deliver a sustainable legacy as part of the partnership that we have with Premiership Rugby. In the delivery of the Aviva Schools Programme we are seeing lasting results through 1,200 teachers each year continuing to be able to teach Tag in their schools and so hopefully inspire the next generation of rugby players to take up the sport whilst impacting over 40,000 children each season."
