Figure image
LV=, the title sponsors of the LV= Cup, have launched a competition to find the next generation of rugby reporters.

The LV= Cup has played a key role in the development of some of Leicester Tigers’ and rugby’s brightest talents in recent seasons

Now the search is on to uncover young reporting talent off the field.

The LV= Young Reporter Competition invites children under 16 to submit a 200 word review of any LV= Round 4 fixture.

The writer of the best report will then win four VIP tickets to the LV= Cup Final at Sixways on Sunday, March 17, as well as the chance to interview Tigers legend and LV= Ambassador Lewis Moody, which will be played on the big screen at half time.

Two runners up will also receive four tickets each to the final. All winners must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.

The winner will also be invited to attend the post-match press conference and write a match report of the game which will be published on the RFU, Premiership Rugby and LV= websites

Enter via www.rfu.com/thegame/competitions/lvcup by February 11 at midday. A panel comprising of representatives from the RFU, LV=, Premiership Rugby , the Welsh Rugby Union and a national rugby journalist will review each match report submitted before the winner and two runner-ups are chosen on Tuesday, February 19.

Claire Jeromson, LV= head of sponsorship, said: “The LV= Cup has proved vital in giving so many talented young rugby players the chance to get a taste of first-team rugby and now we want to give the next generation of aspiring young sports writers a chance to make their mark too.

“This is a great opportunity for a potential future sports journalist to meet a legend of the game and get an exclusive interview with them, to help them in their future career.”

Here are some top tips for writing a match report:

Avoid detailing every aspect of the game; just include the bits that lead to scores.

Give it an attention grabbing headline; there are lots of match reports, we want people to read yours.

Remember to list the half-time and full-time score; that’s the important bit.

Try to begin the report with a brief background about the game; where is the team in their respective pools? Have they got some big names playing for them? Is there anything special about the game?

And good luck!
