Leicester Tigers will break new ground next week by hosting a Tigers Rugby Camp in Asia.

A team of coaches from Tigers, the nine-time English rugby champions, are heading to Kuala Lumpur next week to meet young players and improve their rugby skills and enjoyment of the game.

More than 100 young players from the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur will be put through their paces by Leicester coaches including Craig Newby, a former All Blacks international who captained Tigers at the Aviva Premiership Final at Twickenham in 2011, and double European Cup winner Glenn Gelderbloom.

Tigers Rugby Camps have attracted thousands of young players throughout the local region, including several members of the current first-team squad in their junior days, and in recent years have also been welcomed in Jersey, Guernsey and at the British School in the Netherlands.

Scott Clarke, Tigers community department manager, said: “Leicester Tigers is a name which is known throughout the rugby world and we’re delighted to be able to take a Tigers Rugby Camp into Asia.

“The Royal Selangor club have been very enthusiastic about welcoming us for this ground-breaking week and we’re very much looking forward to meeting their young players and supporters and taking Leicester Tigers into Asia.

“Tigers Rugby Camps provide a fun but also professional environment in which to learn more about the game and we work very closely with the club’s successful Academy set-up to provide the best possible coaching advice.

“This is our first Rugby Camp venture into Asia but there is such a lot of interest in the Leicester Tigers from around the world that we hope this will be the first of many overseas events.”

The Tigers Rugby Camp starts in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

Closer to home, there is a programme of two-day and three-day Tigers Rugby Camps running in the Tigers region during February half-term.

Events are Oakham RFC (Feb 11-13), Ashby RFC (Feb 14-15), Burton on Trent RFC (Feb 18-20) and Trent College in Nottinghamshire (Feb 21-22). Places are still available to book. Phone the Leicester Tigers community department on 0844 856 1880 or book online. Click here for more details.

During Easter the Tigers Rugby Camps are based at Market Bosworth RFC, Loughborough Grammar School, Mount St Mary's College in Sheffield and Spalding RFC in Lincolnshire.
