Leicester Tigers have taken historic steps into Asia with a Tigers Rugby Camp in Kuala Lumpur this week.

More than 100 young players from the Royal Selangor Club are being put through their paces by coaches including Craig Newby, Glenn Gelderbloom and Troy Thacker.

Tigers Rugby Camps have attracted thousands of young players throughout the local region, including several members of the current first-team squad in their junior days, and in recent years have also been welcomed in Jersey, Guernsey and at the British School in the Netherlands.

The team started the week-long camp this morning and have been impressed by the enthusiasm of the RSC players, as well as their rugby skills.

Scott Clarke, Tigers community department manager, said: “We’re delighted to be able to take the name of Leicester Tigers and a Tigers Rugby Camp to Kuala Lumpur and the Royal Selangor club.

“Tigers Rugby Camps provide a great opportunity to learn from some top-class coaches and develiop rugby skills, as well as benefiting from the experience of working within a professional environment.

“This is our first Rugby Camp in Asia but there is such a lot of interest in the Leicester Tigers from around the world that we hope this will be the first of many.”

There is also a number of two-day and three-day Tigers Rugby Camps running close to home this week, kicking off at Oakham RFC (Feb 11-13), and including Ashby RFC (Feb 14-15), Burton on Trent RFC (Feb 18-20) and Trent College in Nottinghamshire (Feb 21-22). Places are still available on all courses. Phone the Leicester Tigers community department on 0844 856 1880 or book online.

Easter courses are based at Market Bosworth RFC, Loughborough Grammar School, Mount St Mary's College in Sheffield and Spalding RFC in Lincolnshire.
