Leicester Tigers are saddened to learn of the death of the club's former medical officer Dr Noel Simpson, aged 96.

Born in August 1916, Dr Simpson was senior rheumatologist at Leicester Royal Infirmary and gave decades of service to Leicester Tigers.

After his retirement, he was still a big Tigers supporter, attending his last home fixture just a fortnight ago.

Peter Wheeler, Tigers executive director, said: “Many past players will remember Noel warmly for devoting his time to help them get back on to the pitch as soon as possible after injury.

“He was also a big supporter of the club. We saw him at every home game and his positive and cheerful outlook was always a feature of his appearances here.

“We pass on our sincere condolences to Noel’s family and friends.”
